Side-striped Skimmer (Orthemis aequilibris) Calvert, 1909

 

Orthemis aequilibris is found in Costa Rica, Panama, and South America, east of the Andes (south to northern Argentina); up to 1,200 m. Adults frequent margins of wetlands and rivers, and forest edges. Adult male is purplish blue; females and immature males exhibit a light horizontal stripe on the thorax. Up to 50 mm in length.
